IF YOU ARE TRAPPED
If you are unable to evacuate from a wildfire, the main thing to remember is to stay calm. Whether in your vehicle, on foot, or in your home, take the necessary steps to stay safe and calm.
While in your home:
- Keep your family together
- Call 911 and inform authorities of your location
- Stay inside your house
- Stay away from outside walls and windows
- Fill sinks and tubs with cold water
- Keep doors and windows closed but unlocked
While in your vehicle:
- Call 911 and inform authorities of your location
- Park your vehicle in an area clear of vegetation
- Close all vehicle windows and vents
- Cover yourself with a wool blanket or jacket
- Lie on the vehicle floor
- Use your cell phone to advise officials—call 911
While on foot:
- Call 911 and inform authorities of your location
- Go to an area clear of vegetation like a parking lot, drive way, or in "the black" which is an area that has already burned
- Lie face down, with your feet towards the fire
